On October 2010, the management applications industry got surprised by Jim Schaper’s announcement that Charles Phillips will be taking over at Infor as its new CEO. By December, things got more surprising as Mr. Phillips officially begun his residence on the said position after resigning from his former company on September of the same year.

Jim Schaper is no other than the man who Charles Phillips had replaced. He was Infor’s CEO until the time when he announced that the former Oracle’s president will be succeeding him. For many people, his move was bold and questionable, but Schaper stood firm and continuously pointed how much he believed that Mr. Phillips was the best choice for the job. He also cited that he was looking for a successor for months already, and it was this man who caught his attention.

Charles Phillips is not new to the spotlight at all. In fact, even before he was called upon as Infor’s future CEO, this man had already made his mark on those who are particular with the applications industry. His popularity even rooted before he was placed on top positions in the said industry. Mr. Phillips holds a BS in Computer Science, a MBA, and a Juris Doctorate degree. He had used his education and interests very well, which eventually paved way towards his imminent success. His degrees had also given him a unique perspective towards the industry which eventually became one of his best tools.

When he was still starting, Mr. Phillips had worked at Morgan Stanley in Wall Street as a Director. There he became recognized as a top enterprise software analyst by various business finance magazines like Institutional Investor. From then on, companies started tapping on his potentials.

By 2003, Larry Ellison of Oracle was able to ‘lure’ Mr. Phillips from Wall Street. He became an executive vice-president for strategy, partnership, and business development but within a year, he became one of the company’s presidents. During his stay at Oracle, Mr. Phillips was able to strategize and participate in some of the company’s major deal acquisitions. From then on, he garnered respect and admiration in the industry.

With the reputation, he had made for himself, a lot of people are looking forward to what Charles Phillips will be bringing for Infor. This is highly anticipated especially because he had also stated his eagerness to lead the company to the next phase of its growth.
